The master thesis entitled \u201d Study of the enzyme methionine adenosyl transferase in patients with thyroid diseases\u201d was discussed at the Department of Chemistry at the College of Science \/ University of Mosul on Monday, October 6, 2025.<\/p>\n

The dean of the College, Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim al-Taie, the head of the department and a number of respected college teachers attended part of the discussion.<\/p>\n

The dissertation was presented by the student Marwa Ahmed Juma Abdullah, and dealt with the study of the enzyme methionine adenosyl transferase (MAT) in patients with hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, and this study is the first of its kind in researching the relationship between this enzyme and thyroid diseases, as well as the study of a group of vital enzymes related to the oxidative state in the body.<\/p>\n

The study included 250 clinical models, and included three main axes:<\/p>\n

Part I: clinical study of MAT enzyme levels and a number of chemobiotic variables (enzymatic and non-enzymatic) in patients with hyper and hypothyroidism. The results also showed an inverse relationship between the effectiveness of the MAT enzyme and enzymes such as catalase and xanthine oxidase, indicating an imbalance in the metabolic balance and antioxidant cellular defenses.<\/p>\n

Part II: isolation and purification of the MAT enzyme using gel filtration techniques through (14) purification stages, with a recovery rate of 15.9%, with determination of the molecular weight of the enzyme using gel filtration and electrophoresis techniques.<\/p>\n

The results showed that vincristine sulfate achieved the highest inhibition rate of 78.946%\u2013, while remedievir showed the highest activation rate of 64.502%+.<\/p>\n
