A doctoral dissertation entitled \u201cDevelopment of Different Spectroscopic and Electrochemical Methods for Estimating Some Pharmaceutical Compounds in Their Pharmaceutical Preparations\u201d was discussed in the Chemistry Department, College of Science, University of Mosul, on Wednesday morning, October 8, 2025. The discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Rayan Mazen Faisal, the Head of the Department, Professor Dr. Salem Jassim Mohammed, and a number of college members and postgraduate students.<\/p>\n

The dissertation was presented by student Basma Ahmed Abdulhadi Salim from the Chemistry Department. It addressed the development of new spectroscopic and electrochemical analytical methods for estimating a group of important pharmaceutical compounds in their pharmaceutical preparations.<\/p>\n

The study included three main drug groups:<\/p>\n

Group One: The drug compound indomethacin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat pain and inflammation, particularly in cases of rheumatoid arthritis.<\/p>\n

The second group: Taxone compounds such as paclitaxel, and anthracyclines including doxorubicin and daunorubicin, which are chemotherapeutic agents effective in treating various types of cancer.<\/p>\n

The third group: Silendipine and lercanidipine hydrochloride, which are calcium channel blockers used to lower blood pressure and prevent cardiovascular disease.<\/p>\n

The thesis aimed to develop simple, accurate, and sensitive methods for measuring the concentrations of these compounds in their pure form and in pharmaceutical preparations, using advanced spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. This will contribute to improving the efficiency of pharmaceutical analysis and ensuring the quality of locally and globally produced medicines.<\/p>\n

Professor Dr. Amer Dhunoun Abdul Rahman (Supervisor and Member)<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the discussion, the committee awarded the student well-deserved recognition for her outstanding scientific and research efforts in the field of pharmaceutical analysis.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Professor Dr. Muayad Qasim Yassin Al-Abaiji, Dean of the College of Science at Ashur University, in recognition of his scientific efforts and active participation in the thesis discussion.<\/p>\n

The student achieved a remarkable scientific accomplishment by publishing ten research papers in Scopus-indexed journals, with five additional papers accepted for publication. This is further evidence of the excellence of the students in the College of Science.<\/p>\n
