A doctoral dissertation entitled \u201cCurcumin Analogue, Synthesis, and Pharmacological Activity: A Doping Study of Novel Heterocyclic Compounds Derived from Benzofurans via Green Chemistry\u201d was discussed in the Chemistry Department, College of Science, University of Mosul.<\/p>\n

The dissertation was presented by student Afyaa Muayad Younis Mustafa Al-Dabbagh on Thursday, October 9, 2025.<\/p>\n

Part of the discussion was attended by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Rayan Mazen Faisal, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Adel Sharif, and a number of college members and graduate students.<\/p>\n

The dissertation addressed the preparation of new compounds similar to curcumin in terms of their structural composition, with the introduction of various substitutions to produce five- and six-membered cyclic compounds (such as pyrazole, pyrimidine, and isooxazole), which are considered a promising basis for the development of new pharmaceutical compounds.<\/p>\n

This study aimed to evaluate the biological activity of the prepared compounds as antibacterial and antifungal agents, comparing it to the activity of curcumin. Additionally, a molecular docking study was conducted to select the most effective compounds, which were then tested in vivo on mouse tissues to determine their efficacy against kidney cancer.<\/p>\n

The results showed that some compounds, particularly methoxy derivatives, exhibited strong activity in eliminating cancerous tumor cells, leading to complete disease eradication in animal models. This makes them promising candidates for future therapeutic development.<\/p>\n
