The Chemistry Department at the College of Science, University of Mosul, discussed a master’s thesis entitled “Using Modified Hydrogel in Removing Dissolved Pollutants from Water with a Kinetic and Thermodynamic Study of the Removal Process” on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in the department’s discussion hall.<\/p>\n

The thesis was presented by student Ebaa Ubay Sabah Ibrahim Al-Saigh from the Industrial Chemistry branch. The research involved the preparation of an innovative and environmentally friendly bio-hydrogel composite enhanced with chitosan and sunflower seed husks, with the aim of using it to treat polluted water and remove dissolved pollutants with high efficiency.<\/p>\n

The study results showed that the prepared composite is characterized by its highly porous three-dimensional network and large surface area, making it an effective adsorbent. The research also demonstrated its ability to remove organic pollutants, particularly methylene blue dye and hydroxychloroquine, with high removal rates and the possibility of reuse for multiple cycles, making it a sustainable and promising option for water treatment applications.<\/p>\n

The discussion featured an in-depth scientific dialogue that reflected the importance and novelty of the topic. The committee commended the research effort and the value of the achieved results in supporting efforts to find scientific solutions for addressing water pollution and serving the community and the environment.<\/p>\n

In conclusion, the Head of the Chemistry Department, Professor Dr. Firas Ahmed Dhunoon, on behalf of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim, presented a letter of thanks and appreciation to Assistant Professor Dr. Wajdan Mohammed Saleh Mohammed, in recognition of her attendance, active participation, and scientific contribution to enriching the discussion, as well as her valuable observations that contributed to evaluating the thesis and enhancing its academic rigor.<\/p>\n
