The Department of Biology at the College of Science, University of Mosul, discussed a Master\u2019s thesis entitled \u201cMeasurement of the Levels of Certain Inflammatory Cytokines as Risk Factors in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Nineveh Province\u201d<\/strong> on Thursday, 14 May 2026. The discussion was chaired by the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim<\/strong>, and attended in part by the Head of the Department of Biology, along with a number of postgraduate students.<\/p>\n

The thesis, submitted by Khalil Nawaf Gharib<\/strong> from the Microbiology Branch, investigated the levels of selected inflammatory cytokines as risk factors in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) and examined their relationship with various clinical and physiological variables. The study evaluated the effects of age, body mass index (BMI), disease duration, fasting and random blood glucose levels, as well as the impact of hypertension and associated chronic diseases on hematological and immunological parameters.<\/p>\n

The research also included the measurement of white blood cell counts, red blood cell counts, hemoglobin levels, and selected immune cell populations in order to clarify the role of chronic low-grade inflammation in the progression of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and its complications.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the study aimed to assess the levels of certain immunological factors in T2DM patients, determine the impact of the disease on immune and blood cells, and measure the concentrations of selected immune-related compounds to evaluate immune cell efficiency in affected individuals. It also explored the relationship between body mass index, disease duration, and dietary compliance among patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.<\/p>\n

The examination committee was chaired by Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim Ismail<\/strong>, Dean of the College of Science, University of Mosul, and included Professor Dr. Ziad Dhanoon Dawood Faisal<\/strong> and Lecturer Dr. Rana Ibrahim Mohammed<\/strong> as members, with Professor Dr. Mahmoud Abduljabbar Hussein<\/strong> serving as both member and supervisor.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the defense, the Dean of the College presented a Letter of Appreciation to Lecturer Dr. Rana Ibrahim Mohammed<\/strong> from the College of Education for Women, University of Mosul, in recognition of her valuable contributions and efforts as a member of the examination committee.<\/p>\n
