As part of supporting scientific research and strengthening academic capabilities, Master\u2019s student Ikram Ghanem Hazem Taleb<\/strong> from the Department of Geology and Petroleum \/ College of Science presented a seminar on Tuesday, May 5, 2026<\/strong>, in the field of micropaleontology, attended by several faculty members and postgraduate students of the department.<\/p>\n

The seminar was titled:<\/p>\n

\u201cOstracoda, Biostratigraphy, and Paleoenvironment of the Komitan Formation in Injana Well (5), Hamrin Area, Northeastern Iraq\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

and was supervised by Prof. Dr. Nisreen Mallah Aziz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The study aimed to identify ostracod genera and species and compare them with the stratigraphic successions of the Komitan Formation, as well as to analyze their stratigraphic distribution, determine the prevailing paleoenvironment during deposition, reconstruct the paleogeography of the region, and interpret ancient marine connections.<\/p>\n

The research relied on both field and laboratory work, including monitoring rock successions and conducting microscopic examinations and necessary analyses.<\/p>\n

The seminar concluded with fruitful scientific discussions that enhanced research skills and promoted academic exchange between faculty members and students.<\/p>\n
