The Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science, University of Mosul, organized a scientific visit for third-year undergraduate students (morning studies), accompanied by a number of faculty members, to the Medical and Therapeutic Research Center<\/strong> on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.<\/p>\n

The visit aimed to introduce students to the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies used in cancer treatment, while providing them with firsthand knowledge of their operating mechanisms and clinical applications. The initiative was designed to strengthen students\u2019 practical understanding of concepts and techniques within the field of medical physics.<\/p>\n

During the visit, students were introduced to several advanced medical devices, including a CT Scan Simulation System<\/strong>, a Computed Tomography (CT) Scanner<\/strong>, and a Linear Accelerator (LINAC)<\/strong>. Specialists provided detailed explanations of the operational procedures, dose simulation processes, and the protocols followed to ensure diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.<\/p>\n

Particular attention was given to the Linear Accelerator<\/strong>, where the specialized staff delivered a comprehensive practical presentation on the administration of radiation therapy doses for cancer patients, including dose calculation methods, treatment planning procedures, and the operational principles of the device. Students were also given an overview of the system\u2019s components and observed its functionality in a real clinical setting.<\/p>\n

The visit contributed significantly to enhancing the students\u2019 practical skills by linking theoretical knowledge with real-world applications. It also provided them with valuable exposure to modern technologies employed in medical and research centers, thereby supporting their academic development and preparing them for future professional careers.<\/p>\n

This educational activity aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/strong>, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education<\/strong>, through the provision of practical learning opportunities, and Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being<\/strong>, by promoting knowledge and understanding of advanced healthcare technologies that contribute to improved patient care and treatment outcomes.<\/p>\n
