The Department of Geology and Petroleum Sciences at the College of Science, University of Mosul, organized a scientific course within the framework of continuing education activities, entitled \u201cGeology and Sustainability\u201d<\/strong>, with the participation of a group of university professors and specialists in sustainability from inside and outside the University of Mosul.<\/p>\n

The course addressed the pivotal role of geology in achieving sustainability through the management of natural resources, understanding geochemical processes, and mitigating environmental impacts, thereby contributing to sustainable development and the preservation of resources for future generations.<\/p>\n

It also highlighted the relationship between geology, environmental geochemistry, and sustainability in interpreting the behavior of various elements, particularly in arid environments such as Iraq. In addition, the course reviewed the importance of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technologies in geological formations and their role in reducing carbon emissions.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the course shed light on major environmental challenges, including water salinity, desertification, pollution, climate change, and greenhouse gas emissions, and presented a range of sustainable solutions based on geological knowledge and modern scientific applications.<\/p>\n

The course emphasized that sustainability has become a global necessity in light of limited Earth resources, increasing levels of pollution and climate change, and the direct environmental impacts of human activities. This necessitates the effective utilization of geological and geochemical sciences to achieve sustainable development and ensure the preservation of natural resources for future generations.<\/p>\n

The course was delivered by Assist. Prof. Dr. Ahed Younis Al-Mallah<\/strong>, Lecturer Dr. Ru\u2019a Mohammed Hassan<\/strong>, and Lecturer Dr. Adel Murad Awad<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
