Under the blessed patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi<\/strong>, and under the supervision and guidance of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim<\/strong>, the Women\u2019s Affairs Committee at the College of Science, in collaboration with the Women\u2019s Affairs Unit at the University of Mosul, as well as the National Security Service Directorate in Nineveh and the University Security Directorate, organized an awareness workshop on \u201cDrug Awareness and Its Risks\u201d<\/strong> over two days, Sunday and Monday (1\u20132 March 2026), held at Dr. Farouk Al-Omari Hall (may he rest in peace)<\/strong> at the college. The workshop was delivered by officers from the National Security Service.<\/p>\n

Drugs are considered a dangerous social menace that threatens the safety and stability of society due to their devastating effects on individuals, families, and institutions alike. Their impact is not limited to physical and psychological harm but extends to influencing general behavior, weakening social values, contributing to the breakdown of family ties, and reducing academic and professional performance. Addiction can also lead to severe mental disorders, significant material and moral losses, and may ultimately result in deviant behavior, crime, and the loss of young people\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Among the most important means of prevention is strengthening comprehensive community awareness about the dangers of drugs, promoting a culture of rejection, intensifying educational and awareness programs, and activating the roles of families, educational institutions, and security agencies in guidance and monitoring. This also includes enforcing deterrent laws to combat drugs and limit their spread, in order to protect society and safeguard future generations.<\/p>\n
