{"id":49115,"date":"2026-02-23T21:00:36","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T21:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/science\/?p=49115"},"modified":"2026-06-24T17:42:19","modified_gmt":"2026-06-24T17:42:19","slug":"workshop-at-the-college-of-science-discusses-violence-against-women-a-societal-issue-not-an-individual-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uomosul.edu.iq\/en\/science\/2026\/02\/23\/workshop-at-the-college-of-science-discusses-violence-against-women-a-societal-issue-not-an-individual-one\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop at the College of Science Discusses \u201cViolence Against Women: A Societal Issue, Not an Individual One\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, <strong>Professor Dr. Wahid Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi<\/strong>, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, <strong>Professor Dr. Hiyam Adel Ibrahim<\/strong>, the <strong>Women\u2019s Affairs Committee<\/strong> at the College of Science, in cooperation with the <strong>Department of Studies and Planning \/ Sustainable Development Unit<\/strong> and the <strong>Women\u2019s Affairs Unit at the University Presidency<\/strong>, organized a workshop entitled:<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\"><strong>\u201cViolence Against Women: A Societal Issue, Not an Individual One\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The workshop was held on <strong>Wednesday, 18 February 2026<\/strong>, in <strong>Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Hamdani Hall<\/strong> at the <strong>Department of Earth and Petroleum Sciences<\/strong>, in the presence of the Head of the Department, <strong>Assistant Professor Dr. Omar Khallouq<\/strong>, along with a number of faculty members and students of the College.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The workshop was organized as part of the implementation of the <strong>Third National Action Plan for Women, Peace, and Security \u2013 Protection and Prevention Pillar<\/strong>, reflecting the academic institution\u2019s commitment to supporting societal issues, promoting the concepts of justice and protection, and raising public awareness of matters related to women\u2019s rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The workshop was delivered by:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>Assistant Lecturer Elin Muwaffaq Khalil<\/strong> \u2013 Head of the Women\u2019s Affairs Committee<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assistant Lecturer Hiba Fares Ahmed<\/strong> \u2013 Women\u2019s Affairs Committee Liaison Member<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fatima Issam Al-Din Salah<\/strong> \u2013 Women\u2019s Affairs Committee Liaison Member<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The workshop addressed the concept of violence against women, its various forms, and its psychological and social impacts. It also highlighted the importance of promoting a culture of respect and community support, while empowering individuals to play an active role in reducing this phenomenon and contributing to the creation of a safe, equitable, and supportive university and community environment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This activity is closely aligned with several <strong>United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/strong>, particularly:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>SDG 5: Gender Equality<\/strong>, through supporting women\u2019s rights and strengthening their protection.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions<\/strong>, by promoting a culture of justice and combating violence.<\/li>\n<li><strong>SDG 4: Quality Education<\/strong>, through awareness-raising and community education on important humanitarian issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The College extends its best wishes to the organizers
