On the occasion of the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, and as part of its ongoing efforts to promote intellectual awareness and reinforce the values of moderation and tolerance, the Psychological Counseling Unit at the College of Science organized a scientific workshop entitled \u201cViolent Extremism.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The event was held under the patronage of the President of the University of Mosul, Professor Waheed Mahmood Al-Ibrahimi<\/strong>, and under the supervision of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Hiyam Adel Ibrahim<\/strong>, reaffirming the University\u2019s commitment to confronting extremism and hate speech while fostering a student culture based on dialogue, mutual respect, and acceptance of others.<\/p>\n

The workshop lectures were delivered by Professor Ryan Tawfiq Khalil<\/strong>, Professor of Comparative Jurisprudence and Objectives of Islamic Law at Al-Imam Al-A\u2019dham University College and Iraq\u2019s representative to the Islamic Fiqh Academy in Jeddah. He addressed the concept of violent extremism from contemporary religious and intellectual perspectives, highlighting its causes, motivations, and consequences for both individuals and society. He emphasized that a sound understanding of religious texts and their objectives plays a vital role in protecting young people from extremist ideologies.<\/p>\n

The workshop was attended by heads of academic departments, faculty members, and students of the College. It featured interactive discussions and scientific contributions that enriched its themes and deepened participants\u2019 awareness of the importance of addressing extremism through a responsible academic approach.<\/p>\n

This workshop forms part of a series of activities organized by the College in support of the University\u2019s efforts to promote a culture of social peace and strengthen intellectual security within the academic community. It also aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education)<\/strong> by fostering awareness, knowledge, and balanced personal development among students, and Goal 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions)<\/strong> by supporting the creation of safe, inclusive, and stable societies based on dialogue, justice, and the rule of law.<\/p>\n
