The Department of Biology<\/strong> at the College of Science, University of Mosul<\/strong>, discussed a Master’s thesis<\/strong> on Sunday, 28 June 2026<\/strong>, entitled:<\/p>\n

“Evaluation of Lymphocyte and Macrophage Function in Individuals with Vitamin D Deficiency in Nineveh Province”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis was presented by Amira Ibrahim Hussein<\/strong>, a Master’s student in Microbiology<\/strong>, in the presence of a number of faculty members from the College.<\/p>\n

The research investigated the impact of vitamin D deficiency on selected immunological and hematological parameters by measuring the levels of the immune cytokines IL-10<\/strong>, IL-12<\/strong>, and TNF-\u03b1<\/strong>, in addition to evaluating lymphocyte and macrophage functions and several hematological and clinical variables among the study participants.<\/p>\n

The study aimed to determine the effect of vitamin D deficiency on immune system efficiency, examine its role in regulating the immune response, and identify the relationship between vitamin D levels and various demographic, clinical, and hematological factors.<\/p>\n

The findings revealed significant alterations, including elevated levels of the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10<\/strong> and reduced levels of the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-12<\/strong> and TNF-\u03b1<\/strong> compared with the control group. The study also demonstrated significant associations between vitamin D levels and several immunological and hematological indicators. Furthermore, factors such as sunlight exposure, sleeping hours, age, gender, and certain clinical symptoms<\/strong> were found to influence both vitamin D status and immune responses.<\/p>\n
