class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"59:4\">, July 19,<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"70:179\">2026, the master&#8217;s thesis tagged \u201d the efficiency of some fungi isolated from various sources in the biodegradation of some industrial waste\u201d, presented by master&#8217;s student Mo&#8217;men Manhal Abdel Salam, majoring in Botany.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"258:360\">The aim of the letter was to isolate fungi and bacteria from the soil of plastic-contaminated areas within the city of Mosul and diagnose them visually, microscopically and molecularly, as well as to estimate the concentrations of some ions, evaluate the efficiency of some fungal and bacterial isolates in the biodegradation of polyethylene in the laboratory, and verify the changes resulting from the decomposition process using infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscope (SEM).<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"622:26\">The study was able to register six<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"656:5\">fungal<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"649:6\">strains<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"662:168\">and three bacterial strains for the first time in the database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), representing a scientific addition in the field of documentation and diagnosis of locally isolated microbiota.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"841:7\">The results<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"834:6\">showed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"849:4\">the superiority<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"854:5\">of g mushrooms<\/span>. <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"863:9\">silvicola<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"873:2\">in<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"876:5\">the analysis<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"882:97\">of polyethylene within the soil experiment, while the fungus Aspergillus niger showed higher efficiency in liquid cultures.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"996:8\">At the bacterial<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"988:7\">level<\/span><span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1016:87\">, Bacillus halotolerans has surpassed Bacillus subtilis in its ability to decompose polyethylene.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1119:7\">The results of the analysis<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1127:8\">using<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1142:4\">FTIR<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1136:5\">technology<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1107:5\">confirmed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1153:8\">the efficiency of fungi<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1162:2\">in<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1178:96\">the process of biodegradation of low-density polyethylene, Aspergillus niger mushrooms stood out in liquid cultures and g mushrooms.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1275:9\">silvicola<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1285:12\">in the soil is determined<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1303:45\">by the recorded changes in peaks and functional aggregates.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1359:7\">Bacteria<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1367:8\">Bacillus<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1376:12\">halotolerans<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1349:3\">have<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1353:5\">also shown<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1389:4\">the ability<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1398:57\">to decompose polyethylene and use it as a carbon source for growth.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1465:33\">The scanning electron microscope (SEM) images<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1459:5\">revealed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1522:5\">obvious<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1515:6\">structural<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1508:6\">changes<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1503:4\">on<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1537:221\">the surfaces of the treated polyethylene tapes, represented by clicking, roughness, the appearance of pits, grooves and microbial colonization compared to the control sample, and the fungus Aspergillus niger was the most effective in colonizing polyethylene tapes and causing changes in their surfaces.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1762:19\">The importance of the study highlights<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1793:168\">the possibility of benefiting from some local fungi and bacteria in the development of biological methods to treat plastic waste and reduce its environmental impact, thus supporting the trend towards sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1965:234\">The
