data-src-align=\"0:224\">On Monday, July 20, 2026, the Department of physics at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul discussed the master&#8217;s thesis tagged \u201d determining the levels of radioactivity of oil field sites in Nineveh Province, Iraq \u201d presented by master&#8217;s student Saba Bashir Ali.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"233:238\">The aim of the letter was to measure and analyze a number of radioactive variables in soil samples collected from a number of oil fields in Nineveh governorate, including Ain Zala, Qayyarah and kaskak fields, in order to assess the levels of radioactivity of natural radioactive elements associated with oil field soils.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"482:7\">The study<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"475:6\">included<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"490:4\">measuring<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"502:126\">the concentrations of uranium and active radium, determining the activity of radon gas and its concentrations in samples and air, as well as calculating its surface and mass emission rates.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"637:7\">The study<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"629:7\">adopted<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"661:7\">the closed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"677:8\">Cylinder<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"686:9\">Technique<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"645:5\">using<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"706:191\">CR-39 solid nuclear trace reagents, where the reagents were displayed for 61 days after achieving radiation equilibrium inside the closed containers, and then the necessary analyzes and calculations were carried out to determine the studied radiation variables.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"908:7\">The results<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"901:6\">showed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"926:10\">that the uranium<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"919:6\">concentrations<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"937:6\">ranged<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"949:5\">from (0.941<\/span><span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"955:5\">-4.184<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"961:3\">ppm<\/span><span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"967:61\">), while the effective radium concentrations ranged from (1.169\u20135.197 Bq\u00b7kg\u22121).<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1033:30\">The concentration of radon in the samples also ranged<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1064:3\">between<\/span> (<span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1074:118\">1.356\u00d7104-6.032\u00d7104 Bq\u00b7m\u22123), and in the air between (0.7107\u00d7103-3.1567\u00d7103 Bq\u00b7m\u22123), while the activity of radon ranged between (0.292\u20131.297 Bq).<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1202:7\">The results<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1196:5\">showed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1235:6\">that the mass<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1227:7\">radon<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1220:6\">emission<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1213:6\">rates<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1242:6\">ranged<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1249:3\">from<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1254:5\">(0.350<\/span><span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1266:84\">\u22121.557 Bq\u00b7kg\u22121\u00b7day\u20131), while the surface emission rates ranged from (21.056\u221293.610 Bq\u00b7m\u22122\u00b7day-1).<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1373:9\">Statistical<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1363:9\">analyzes<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1358:4\">also revealed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1386:30\">the presence of positive and strong correlation relationships<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1417:3\">between<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1431:8\">the<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1421:9\">studied variables<\/span><span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1445:4\">, which indicates<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1460:4\">a clear<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1454:5\">correlation<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1469:50\">between the radioactive content of the soil and various radon variables.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1520:141\">The results of the cluster analysis and the correlation matrix showed the presence of homogeneity and correlation between the radiation variables, with higher levels recorded in some samples compared to others.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1665:56\">The study explained, by comparing the results with previous studies,<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1732:7\">that the recorded<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1726:5\">values<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1740:3\">fall<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1744:3\">within<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1765:6\">the<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1756:8\">reported global<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1748:7\">ranges<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1777:159\">of oil soils and environments with natural radioactivity, which supports the possibility of using the results of the study in assessing the radioactive properties of oil fields soils in Nineveh Governorate.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1940:190\">The
