The Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science \u2013 University of Mosul, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, discussed<\/span> the tagged<\/span> doctoral<\/span> thesis<\/span>: \u201cIsolation and Evaluation of Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) Enzyme and Its Relation to Some Biochemical Variables in Colon Cancer Patients\u201d<\/span> For the researcher<\/span> Walaa<\/span> Farouk<\/span> Abbas<\/span> on<\/span> the Hall of Professor<\/span> Dr. Youssef<\/span> Abdullah<\/span> Shihab<\/span>. The aim of the study was to assess the biochemical and clinical significance of COX-2 enzyme activity in colorectal cancer patients and its relationship with tumor, inflammatory, oxidative stress indicators, trace elements, nutritional variables and lipid profile, as well as isolate, purify and characterize the enzyme-related efficacy and study the effects of inhibition of a number of COX inhibitors in vitro.<\/span> The study included<\/span> 170 participants: 85 patients and 85 healthy, samples were collected before treatment and the diagnosis was based on endoscopy and histological examination.<\/span> It included<\/span> four<\/span> axes<\/span>: 1-clinical and biochemical evaluation<\/span>: COX-2 activity, tumor and inflammatory indicators, oxidative stress, trace elements, nutritional indicators, lipid profile.<\/span> 2<\/span>. isolation<\/span>, purification<\/span> and characterization: using ammonium sulfate precipitation, membrane filtration, ion exchange chromatography and SDS-PAGE characterization.<\/span> 3<\/span>-laboratory<\/span> pharmacological<\/span> evaluation<\/span>: a study<\/span> of the inhibition<\/span> of 6<\/span> inhibitors<\/span> are<\/span>: Etoricoxib<\/span>, Celecoxib, Indomethacin, Nimesulide, Meloxicam, Aspirin, and an IC50 estimate.<\/span> 4<\/span>-liposomal<\/span> nanoformulation<\/span>: preparation<\/span> of<\/span> formulations for Selecoxib<\/span> and<\/span> Etoricoxib<\/span> and their characterization<\/span> with FESEM<\/span> with a size<\/span> of approximately<\/span> 200<\/span> nm<\/span>. The results<\/span> showed<\/span> a significant<\/span> increase<\/span> in COX-2 activity in patients with changes in the studied indicators, and a successful partial enzyme purification with the appearance of a protein bundle at 69 kDa.<\/span> Etoricoxib<\/span> had the<\/span> highest<\/span> inhibitory<\/span> effect<\/span> under<\/span> the study<\/span> conditions<\/span>.
