The Department of Earth and petroleum sciences at the Faculty of Science \u2013 University of Mosul, on Thursday, August 27, 2026, discussed the master’s thesis tagged \u201d life stratigraphy of calcareous nanostructures for nucleicane formation of a section in northern Iraq \u201d by master’s student Moaz Ahmed Fadel Mohammed al-Mashhadani, in the presence of the head of the department, Dr. Omar khalouk Mohammed Sajid, and a number of department teachers and graduate students.<\/span> The dissertation dealt with the classification of calcareous nanofossils (Calcareous Nannofossils) of the rock stratigraphic sequences belonging to the nauklikan formation in the study section located within the northern flank of the Sara \u2013 surdash fold extending from Sulaymaniyah to Dukan district in north-eastern Iraq, as well as accurately determining the age of the formation and extrapolating the conditions of the climate and the ancient depositional environment.<\/span> The main<\/span> results<\/span> and conclusions<\/span> of the study<\/span> : Distinct qualitative<\/span> diagnosis<\/span>: the study<\/span> resulted in the diagnosis<\/span> of (36<\/span>) species<\/span> belonging<\/span> to (15) genera of calcareous nanofossils, including( 28) previously named species and (currently left open-named species.<\/span> – Identification<\/span> of three<\/span> life<\/span> zones<\/span>: based on<\/span> the diagnosed<\/span> crowds<\/span> and<\/span> the types of function<\/span>, three main life zones have been identified<\/span> (arranged<\/span> from the oldest at the bottom<\/span> to<\/span> the newest<\/span> at the top<\/span>), namely<\/span>: Cyclagelosphaera wiedmannii Total Range Biozone (NJT12)<\/span> Lotharingius sigillatus Interval Biozone (NJT13a)<\/span> Helenea staurolithina Partial Range Biozone (NJT13b)<\/span> Based<\/span> on this, it was concluded that the age of the nuclekan formation dates back to the (late calovian \u2013 Oxfordian).<\/span> Extrapolation of climate<\/span> and Paleoenvironment: biomarkers from the function species indicated that the nauclican formation was deposited in a deep and warm marine environment under subtropical to tropical climatic conditions.<\/span> The study<\/span> recommended<\/span> the need to conduct detailed and extensive stratigraphic studies to determine the life zones in the typical sections of all geological formations in Iraq, which contributes to providing an integrated scientific picture of the age and environmental differences between them.<\/span> The discussion Committee was chaired by Assistant Professor<\/span> Dr.<\/span> Abdullah<\/span> Sultan<\/span> Shihab<\/span> Ahmed<\/span>, and the membership<\/span> of<\/span>: Assistant<\/span> professor<\/span> Dr. Mahfouz<\/span> Abdullah<\/span> Ali<\/span>, assistant professor Dr. Mohammed Walid said Mohammed (<\/span>Faculty<\/span> of Environmental<\/span> Sciences<\/span>-University of Mosul<\/span>), and under the supervision and membership of Professor Dr. Omar Ahmed moloud Al-Badrani.<\/span> Our wishes<\/span> to the researcher and to all our students and teachers of our college for success, excellence and scientific creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n
