class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1:262\">The Department of life sciences at the Faculty of science at the University of Mosul discussed the doctoral thesis tagged \u201cthe inhibitory effect of Fengycin compound extracted from Bacillus subtilis bacteria on types of cancer cell lines\u201d, which was submitted by student Yasser Jassim Mohammed on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"272:358\">The aim of the study was to evaluate the anti-cancer effect of the fengycin compound extracted from Bacillus subtilis bacteria, either when used alone or in combination with microRNAs specifically Let-7b and miR-34a, by testing it on three cancer cell lines: A549 lung cancer, HCT116 colon cancer, SH-SY5Y neuronal cancer with the adoption of normal HGF cells as a comparison sample.<\/span> \u200b\u200b<span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"641:8\">Fengcin<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"636:4\">showed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"677:7\">a concentration<\/span><span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"667:5\">-dependent<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"658:8\">inhibitory<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"650:7\">effect<\/span><span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"690:89\">, in which the A549 lung cancer cell line was the most sensitive, due to inhibition of 65.7% at a concentration of 40 \u00b5g\/mL.<\/span> \u200b<span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"789:3\">The combination<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"793:8\">of fengsin<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"809:222\">with microRNAs resulted in enhanced anti-cancer efficacy, with miR-34a-P2 emerging as the most effective, achieving inhibition rates of 92.1% in A549 cells, 80.5% in SH-SY5Y cells, and 71.6% in HCT116 cells, in contrast to a very limited effect on normal HGF cells.<\/span> \u200b<span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1050:8\">Molecular<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1041:8\">analyzes<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1036:4\">revealed<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1072:7\">that effective<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1062:9\">treatments<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1080:6\">were associated<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1087:7\">with high<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1095:7\">gene expression<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1103:148\">of both TP53 and Caspase-3, and low gene expression of K-ras, confirming the effect of this combination on the molecular pathways responsible for inhibiting cancerous growth.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1255:23\">The study concluded that the combination<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1284:8\">of fengsin<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1279:4\">with<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1300:9\">microRNAs<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1311:160\">(in particular miR-34a and Let-7b) represents a promising therapeutic strategy that increases the efficiency of inhibition of cancer cells while maintaining a high degree of selectivity towards non-cancer cells.<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1485:8\">The discussion<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1480:4\">Committee<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1475:4\">was chaired<\/span> <span class=\"YPkS7KbdpWfGdYKd3QB9\" data-src-align=\"1494:255\">by Prof. Dr. Mohsen Ayoub Issa, with the membership of: Prof. Dr. Nihad Abdul Mohsen Jaafar, Prof. Dr. Ziad dhanoun Dawood, Prof. Dr. Firas Hamid akhdhir, Prof. Dr. Ghada Abdul Razzaq Mohammed, Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Abdul Jabbar Hussein ( member and supervisor
