The Department of Earth and petroleum sciences at the Faculty of Science discussed, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, the master thesis tagged “ostracoda and life stratigraphy study of pubic formation for a section in northern Iraq,” submitted by researcher Israa Nashwan Yahya Mohammed al-Taie.<\/span> The study dealt with the crowds of ostracods to form a pubis in the well of khabaz (3) within the khabaz oil field in Kirkuk governorate, as the taxonomic study included the diagnosis of (54) species of ostracoda belonging to (31) genera, including (47) previously named species, as well as the registration of (7) new species, representing important information to support future studies of this fossil species.<\/span> Based on<\/span> the stratigraphic<\/span> distribution<\/span> of ostracoda fossils<\/span>, three main life assemblage zones and two secondary ranges have been identified within<\/span> the<\/span> studied section<\/span>, arranged<\/span> from<\/span> the oldest<\/span> to<\/span> the most recent<\/span>, namely<\/span>: Actinocythere orinta \u2013 Costa hermi Assemblage Biozone<\/span> Trachyleberis leei Assemblage Subzone<\/span> Stigymatocythere indica Assemblage Subzone<\/span> Murrayina gibberula \u2013 Xestoleberis obtuse Assemblage Biozone<\/span> Candona (Pseudocandona) fertilis \u2013 Miocyprideis lyubimovae Assemblage Biozone<\/span> He also determined the stratigraphic age<\/span> of the pubic formation in the studied section as belonging to the late Oligocene (Late Oligocene), which corresponds to the approved regional and global stratigraphic records.<\/span> The study<\/span> showed<\/span> that<\/span> ostracoda fossils<\/span> reflect<\/span> a<\/span> shallow and calm<\/span> Marine<\/span> depositional<\/span> environment<\/span> behind<\/span> the reef<\/span> (back reef<\/span> environment<\/span>) with low water energy, and also contributed to the determination of paleoclimatic and environmental conditions during the period of deposition of the pubis formation.<\/span> The discussion Committee was chaired by Dr. Omar Ahmed Mouloud Shihab, and the membership of assistant professor Dr. Ibrahim Younis Ahmed and teacher Dr. Rana Abdullah Mahmoud, while Dr. Nasrin Malallah Aziz Mahmoud participated as a member and supervisor.<\/span> Our wishes<\/span> to the researcher and to all graduate students and faculty teachers for success, excellence and creativity.<\/span><\/p>\n
