In the presence of Prof. Dr. Saevan Saad Al-Mahmoud, Dean of the College, and Prof. Dr. Raad Abdul-Ghani Basheer, Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, along with a distinguished group of faculty members and postgraduate students, the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Mosul held a PhD dissertation defense for the student Tima Adlan Yahya<\/strong> in the field of Veterinary Pharmacology<\/strong> on Wednesday, April 29, 2025.<\/p>\n

The dissertation, titled:
\u201cComparison of the Pharmacological and Molecular Effects Between Nimesulide and Aspirin in Mice\u201d<\/strong>
aimed to compare the pharmacological and molecular effects of selective (Nimesulide) and non-selective (Aspirin) Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors in mice.<\/p>\n

The findings of the study indicated that Nimesulide<\/strong> exhibited superior pharmacological properties\u2014namely analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects\u2014compared to Aspirin. Moreover, it demonstrated enhanced molecular activity in relation to Caspase-3, Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor Alpha (PPAR-\u03b1),<\/strong> and COX-2 gene expression<\/strong>, suggesting its potential for practical application in the field of veterinary medicine.<\/p>\n

    Following a thorough discussion and the candidate\u2019s successful defense of her work, the committee decided to accept the dissertation and award the PhD degree to the student.<\/p>\n

    On this occasion, the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Saevan Saad Al-Mahmoud, extended special thanks to Prof. Dr. Suham Ajmi Wadi for her participation as a committee member.<\/p>\n
