PhD Thesis Defense \u2013 College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Mosul held a PhD thesis defense for candidate Bidaa Younis Mahmoud, specializing in Veterinary Parasitology.<\/p>\n

The thesis, entitled:<\/p>\n

\u201cMorphological and Molecular Diagnosis and Investigation of Epidemiological Aspects of Babesia Species and Their Tick Vectors in Sheep in Mosul City,\u201d<\/p>\n

focused on the identification and characterization of Babesia parasites and their tick vectors affecting sheep in Mosul and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

The research confirmed the presence of two Babesia species\u2014Babesia ovis and Babesia motasi\u2014and identified two tick species infesting sheep: Rhipicephalus turanicus and Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum. Species identification was achieved through microscopic examination, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), and genetic sequencing. The study also documented new isolates and explored key epidemiological aspects related to the parasites and their vectors.<\/p>\n
