A Master\u2019s thesis was defended at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Surgery and Animal Reproduction, entitled:<\/p>\n
\u201cEstimation of Gestational Age in Pregnant Ewes Using Trans-abdominal Ultrasonographic Measurements\u201d<\/p>\n
by the student Maha Fares Mahmood, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dhafer Mohammed Aziz, on Sunday, March 1, 2026.<\/p>\n

The study aimed to estimate gestational age in Awassi ewes using transabdominal ultrasonography. Measurements included placentome length, placentome height, fetal length, head diameter, chest diameter, heart diameter, and intercostal distance. Based on the relationship between these measurements and gestational age, seven equations were developed to estimate gestational age.<\/p>\n
The study recommended relying on fetal length to estimate gestational age as long as the fetus appears fully in the ultrasound images, and adopting fetal heart diameter measurements when the fetus grows larger and exceeds the ultrasound imaging range.<\/p>\n
After the student defended her thesis scientifically and confidently, and following thorough discussion by the committee, the thesis was approved.<\/p>\n
