The Sustainable Development Committee at the College of Veterinary Medicine held a workshop on Monday, May 9, 2026, titled \u201cThe Role of the Veterinarian in Eliminating Poverty and Hunger.\u201d The workshop was delivered by Assistant Professor Ghada Abdulrahman Sultan.<\/p>\n
The workshop addressed the developmental dimensions of the veterinary profession and its vital role in supporting food security and improving animal production, which contributes to reducing poverty and enhancing food stability within society.<\/p>\n
It also highlighted the contributions of veterinarians in protecting livestock resources and improving animal health, as well as their role in ensuring the safety of food products of animal origin. Furthermore, it emphasized the importance of the veterinarian\u2019s role in supporting sustainable development efforts and achieving one of its key goals: eliminating hunger and improving livelihoods.<\/p>\n
The workshop was attended by a number of faculty members and staff of the college, providing an opportunity for discussion and the exchange of ideas on mechanisms to strengthen the role of veterinarians in serving the community and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants emphasized the importance of organizing such scientific activities to spread awareness and enhance the professional and humanitarian responsibility of veterinarians.<\/p>\n
This workshop aligns with the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), Goal 4 (Quality Education), and Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).<\/p>\n
