Master’s Thesis Defense<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Master’s thesis defense was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Diseases and Poultry Diseases<\/strong>, for the thesis entitled:<\/p>\n

“Molecular and Pathological Detection of Infectious Bursal Disease in Broilers”<\/strong><\/p>\n

The thesis was presented by Ahmed Nozd Tawfiq<\/strong> under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fanar Ablahad Ishaq<\/strong>, on Thursday, July 30, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The examination committee consisted of:<\/p>\n

    The study concluded that the infectious bursal disease virus is significantly widespread in broiler chicken flocks in Nineveh Province. Molecular and pathological examinations confirmed the presence of highly virulent strains as well as variant viruses that caused severe damage to the Bursa of Fabricius and led to immunosuppression. Genetic sequencing of the viral VP2 protein revealed a close relationship between local isolates and several regional and international strains. Histopathological and immunohistochemical analyses further supported the diagnosis and helped determine the severity of immune damage.<\/p>\n

    The findings highlight the necessity of continuous molecular surveillance and the evaluation of the compatibility of used vaccines with local viral isolates, which would contribute to reducing disease spread and minimizing economic losses in the poultry sector.<\/p>\n

    Following the candidate’s scientific and confident defense and the committee\u2019s thorough discussion, the thesis was approved.<\/p>\n
