Prof. Inas Sheet Mustafa \u2013 College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul \u2013 Member<\/p>\n<p>Prof. Dr. Sivan Saad Al-Mahmoud \u2013 College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Mosul \u2013 Member and Supervisor<\/p>\n<p>The present study aimed to investigate the gross and histopathological characteristics and immunohistochemical features associated with naturally occurring canine transmissible venereal tumor (CTVT), in addition to the genetic analysis and nucleotide sequence analysis of the C-MYC and P53 genes in affected canine cases.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 25 samples were collected from affected dogs in Mosul City during the period extending from September 2025 to April 2026. Subsequently, the tumor masses were surgically excised and divided into two parts. The first part was stored frozen at \u221220\u00b0C for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis, while the second part was fixed in 10% neutral buffered formalin for histopathological examination.<\/p>\n<p>Gross examination of the lesions was performed, including assessment of their shape, color, and consistency. The animals exhibited distinct pathological lesions characterized by tumorous masses involving the external genitalia, with a cauliflower-like appearance, a tendency to bleed easily, and associated bloody discharge.<\/p>\n<p>Histopathological examination revealed complete loss of the normal tissue architecture, which was replaced by a highly cellular neoplastic proliferation. The tumor cells were arranged in solid sheets, cords, papillary, and glandular patterns. The cells exhibited marked pleomorphism and variation in cellular and nuclear size, with enlarged hyperchromatic nuclei, prominent nucleoli, and a high mitotic activity.<\/p>\n<p>Coagulative necrosis, vacuolar degeneration, and local invasion into muscular, fibrous, and nervous tissues were also observed, in addition to vascular invasion and the presence of intravascular tumor emboli, confirming the highly aggressive nature of the tumor.<\/p>\n<p>The histological sections also demonstrated considerable structural variation, including papillary, cystic-glandular, and tubular patterns, as well as areas of cartilaginous metaplasia. A dense inflammatory infiltrate consisting predominantly of lymphocytes and plasma cells was observed, accompanied by a prominent fibrous response surrounding the tumor.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to the researcher, her supervisor, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and the Department of Pathology and Poultry Diseases on this valuable scientific achievement.
