Master\u2019s Thesis Defense \u2013 College of Veterinary Medicine, Department of Internal and Preventive Medicine<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Master\u2019s thesis titled \u201cDiagnostic Study of Contagious Ecthyma in Sheep and Goats\u201d<\/strong> by the student Aisha Faisal Ibrahim<\/strong>, supervised by Asst. Prof. Mohammed Abdulmohsen Saleh<\/strong>, was defended on Thursday, September 3, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

    The present diagnostic study was conducted on sheep and goats in Nineveh Governorate<\/strong> to confirm infection with Contagious Ecthyma<\/strong> based on the characteristic clinical signs and confirmatory laboratory tests. The study also included an analysis of the genetic diversity<\/strong> and phylogenetic relationships<\/strong> of the causative virus. The disease has recorded high prevalence rates in recent years in Iraq and the region, causing significant economic losses in livestock production.<\/p>\n

    The results showed an overall infection rate of 22%<\/strong>, distributed as 19% in sheep<\/strong> and 25% in goats<\/strong>. The findings indicated that clinical signs can be relied upon for initial diagnosis<\/strong>, while molecular testing<\/strong> proved to be the most accurate and rapid<\/strong> method compared with other serological assays used in the study.<\/p>\n

    After the student confidently defended her thesis and addressed the committee\u2019s questions, the thesis was approved<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
