Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Waheed Mahmoud Al-Ibrahimi<\/strong>, President of the University of Mosul, and supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Omar Mohammed Hamdoun<\/strong>, Dean of the College of Engineering, the Department of Dams and Water Resources Engineering<\/strong> at the College of Engineering, in cooperation with the Office of the Iraqi Council of Representatives<\/strong>, held the first scientific seminar of the 2025\u20132026 academic year<\/strong> entitled:
\n\u201cWater Scarcity in Nineveh Governorate: Reality, Challenges, and Sustainable Solutions.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The seminar was attended by MP Prof. Dr. Muzahim Al-Khayyat<\/strong>, along with a number of professors, engineers, and researchers specialized in water and natural resources.<\/p>\n

Asst. Prof. Dr. Yousif Hashim Abdullah<\/strong>, Director of the Dams and Water Resources Research Center at the University of Mosul<\/strong>, participated in the seminar and delivered a lecture titled:
\n\u201cThe Water Scarcity Crisis in Nineveh Governorate and Its Relation to the Operation of the Mosul Dam Reservoir.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

In his lecture, Dr. Yousif discussed the water situation in the governorate and the challenges facing the operation of the Mosul Dam reservoir<\/strong> amid reduced water inflows and changing climatic patterns, highlighting the direct impact of these challenges on water and agricultural security in the region<\/strong>. He also proposed a set of scientific solutions and sustainable operational strategies<\/strong> to achieve balanced management of dam waters and improve their efficiency.<\/p>\n

The Center Director emphasized the importance of activating the research role of water studies centers in Iraqi universities<\/strong> and expanding cooperation with relevant governmental and parliamentary institutions to strengthen the state\u2019s efforts in addressing the water scarcity crisis based on precise scientific foundations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The seminar included the presentation of several research studies and scientific discussions by researchers and academics in the field of water resources management<\/strong>, and concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to participants.<\/p>\n

A number of researchers from our Center attended the seminar, reinforcing the Center\u2019s role in monitoring scientific activities and exchanging academic expertise<\/strong> in the fields of dams and water resources.<\/p>\n

The participation of the Dams and Water Resources Research Center<\/strong> is part of its ongoing scientific activities in supporting national water and dam-related issues<\/strong>, emphasizing its role in providing research-based insights to achieve sustainable water security<\/strong> for Nineveh Governorate and Iraq as a whole.<\/p>\n
