Prof. Dr. Khalil Ibrahim Osman<\/strong>, addressed the <strong>scientific and engineering principles for calculating the storage capacities of dam reservoirs<\/strong>, which form the basis for <strong>determining dam heights, designing spillways, and regulating water discharges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop focused on <strong>key considerations for operating dam reservoirs<\/strong>, including <strong>allocation of stored water<\/strong> to meet civil, agricultural, industrial, and environmental demands.<\/p>\n<p>It also covered <strong>operation during drought periods<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prioritizing water uses<\/li>\n<li>Regulating and reducing water releases<\/li>\n<li>Balancing water allocations for agricultural and industrial uses within maximum limits<\/li>\n<li>Maintaining <strong>emergency water reserves<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additionally, the workshop addressed <strong>flood operation procedures<\/strong>, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Calculating inflows to reservoirs<\/li>\n<li>Absorbing flood waves<\/li>\n<li>Regulating safe releases through dam outlets in accordance with the river channels\u2019 capacity downstream, while maintaining <strong>safe reservoir levels<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Under normal operating conditions, emphasis was placed on <strong>balancing inflows, outflows, and storage volumes throughout the year<\/strong> and adjusting operational levels based on <strong>overall water balance<\/strong>, ensuring the <strong>sustainability of water resources for various uses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop concluded with <strong>scientific discussions among participants<\/strong> on the application of these principles in the operation of <strong>Iraqi
