Brief Account on the department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics
The department of gynaecology and obstetrics was founded in 1962. At that time the Mosul college of medicine was part of the university of Baghdad and before the foundation of the Mosul university itself in 1967 .
The department teaches the gynaecology and obstetrics subject for fourth ,fifth ,and sixth years undergraduate students . The department as well as responsible for post graduate studies ( training and supervision of their thesis) these studies include (Iraqi Council Board ,Arabic Board, high Diploma of Gynecology and obstetrics) .The department also trains students of family medicine in the gynaecology and obstetrics subject as apart Iraqi board certificate and high diploma of family medicine .
The teaching staff members work at the obstetric and gynaecology departments at Mosul teaching hospitals and included in night duties and answer medical consultations . They also perform tasks at the consultation medical center/ Mosul University/ College of Medicine. They conduct scientific.Researches and supervise the training of the general practitioners, so that they become acquainted with the latest scientific updates of the information during the activation courses.
Aims of the Department:
The academic and clinical program of the department of Gynaecology and obstetrics enable undergraduate students in fourth and fifth stages of the college of medicine / university of Mosul to specify informative components of subjects. As for the sixth year students, the curriculum is to attend clinical section training on gynaecology and obstetrics at the teaching hospital ,Whereby they become acquainted with pregnancy and various diseases in women when they are at work in the hospital wards. They are also admitted in the birth lounge, operation lounge, and emergency so that they know the emergency cases and surgical operations. Students are given weekly explanatory courses on one of the important subject ; for their classes at the sixth class make them qualified to have the final exam in an accepted way in accordance with the standards of quality insurance of the college of medicine / Mosul University . After that , the student can practice clinical work as a rotetar resident after passing the final exams.
