Mosul University’s Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches Participates in Nineveh Water Forum.

The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul actively participated in the second annual Nineveh Water Forum, held on Sunday and Monday, October 12 and 13, 2025.

The significant event took place at the White Tower Hotel in Mosul, as part of the project “Building the Capacities of Civil Society and Local Actors in Nineveh Governorate to Improve Water Resource Management in the Context of Climate Change in Iraq.”

Representing the Center at this forum were Professor Dr. Mohammed Subhi Mustafa Al-Taweel, Head of the Genetic Resources Department, and Dr. Islam Abdul Sattar Asmir Al-Rajbo, both prominent faculty members of the Center. Their participation underscored the Center’s steadfast commitment to addressing water and agricultural issues amidst current climatic challenges.

The forum featured a valuable lecture by Dr. Islam Al-Rajbo titled “The Vision of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul for Coexisting with Climate Variability.” The lecture highlighted the innovative strategies and solutions adopted by the Center to confront the impacts of climate change on water resources and the agricultural sector in the region, emphasizing the importance of scientific research in finding sustainable solutions.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Al-Taweel actively enriched the discussion sessions and dialogues, providing comprehensive and elaborate answers to attendees’ inquiries related to the forum’s topic. His interventions contributed to deepening the discussion and exchanging expertise among participants, thereby enhancing the forum’s intellectual objectives.

This forum was organized in cooperation between Solidarity International and Tigris River Protectors Association, in partnership with the Northern Technical University, and with generous support from the French Development Agency (AFD). The gathering aims to enhance awareness and build local capacities in water resource management, which aligns perfectly with the strategic vision of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches in supporting sustainable agricultural development in Iraq. These efforts are part of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (2-6-13-17), which seek to achieve food security, clean water and sanitation management, climate action, and partnerships for the goals.
