Agricultural Engineers at Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches Conduct Weed Removal Campaign in Support of Sustainable Development.

In line with the University of Mosul’s commitment to supporting environmental initiatives and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a team of agricultural engineers at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches carried out an extensive field campaign to remove weeds and harmful plants.

The campaign took place on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, and covered the areas surrounding the Center’s plastic greenhouses. This voluntary initiative aims to create a clean and suitable research environment for researchers and to facilitate access to the research units, thereby enhancing the quality of ongoing research and applied experiments in the field of dryland and conservation agriculture.

This campaign is part of a series of activities organized by the Center to improve the university environment and support sustainable agricultural practices. The removal of weeds not only contributes to improving the general appearance but is also a necessary step to protect research plants from competition for essential resources such as water and nutrients, and to reduce the risk of agricultural pest spread.

This activity reflects the Center’s keenness to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), by promoting a healthy and sustainable environment that supports biodiversity and minimizes negative environmental impacts.
