Continuing the Implementation of Field Experiments for the 2025/2026 Winter Season within the Scientific Activities of the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul.

The Genetic Resources Department at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches , University of Mosul, continues its scientific activities for the 2025/2026 winter season. On Thursday, November 27, 2025, two field experiments were conducted in the fields of a local farmer in the Al-Abbasiya area of Mosul. These experiments aim to evaluate a set of genetic lines of bread wheat and faba bean as part of ongoing research efforts to enhance productivity and identify promising cultivars adapted to local conditions, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

These experiments contribute to achieving SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) by supporting the development of higher-yielding cultivars with improved adaptability to climate change, thereby strengthening local food security.     They also align with SDG 15 (Life on Land) through the adoption of research practices that preserve plant biodiversity and promote the sustainable management of genetic resources.

The experiments were supervised by a research team from the center, including Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Mohammed Saleh Lecturer Ammar Habib Mahmood , Assistant Lecturer Zainab Hameed Abdullah, and several agricultural engineers from the center. The team monitored the planting stages and implemented all procedures in accordance with approved scientific research protocols.

These activities reflect the center’s commitment to supporting the national sustainable development strategy, enhancing the role of the University of Mosul in serving the community, and advancing agricultural production in a manner that contributes to achieving sustainable food security.
