Commencement of Research Activities by the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul Using Conservation Agriculture Seeders in the Fields of Sinjar Farmers.
On 30 November 2025, the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul commenced its research activities focused on implementing conservation agriculture techniques in several farmers’ fields in Sinjar. The activities employed the Center’s conservation agriculture seeders as part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable agricultural practices and support rural farmers.
The implementation involved cultivating various bread wheat varieties to evaluate their performance under local conditions and to assess the effectiveness of conservation agriculture techniques in improving soil fertility, increasing productivity, and reducing the costs of agricultural operations compared to conventional methods. The process was supervised by the Center’s researchers: Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Mohammed Saleh, Head of the Genetic Resources Department, Dr. Adnan Abdul Ahmed, and Assistant Lecturer Thaker Jasim Mohammed, who oversaw the conservation agriculture seeders. The fieldwork was further supported by a team of agricultural engineers who provided technical assistance during the implementation process.
Specialized personnel calibrated the seeders for seeds and fertilizers to ensure optimal yields at minimal costs, enhancing the effectiveness of the technique and ensuring practical and sustainable benefits for farmers.
The main objective of this activity is to test the performance of modern conservation agriculture techniques under the environmental conditions of Sinjar, and to promote their adoption among local farmers due to their potential to reduce input consumption, improve the efficiency of natural resource use, and increase overall productivity.
This program aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2: Zero Hunger, by promoting sustainable agriculture and supporting national efforts to develop the agricultural sector and improve livelihoods in rural communities.
