Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Research`s

  In celebration of International Human Rights Day and to affirm the importance of supporting and empowering people with disabilities “People of High Determination” , the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul organized a distinguished awareness activity titled “People of High Determination Achieve Greatness.”

  The event was held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, with the aim of promoting the principles of human rights and highlighting the active and important role this group plays in serving the institution and society.

  Ms. Iman Akram Abdul Hakim, the Human Rights Division Liaison Officer at the Center, organized the event and distributed publications that shed light on inspiring stories of global figures with disabilities who overcame challenges and achieved accomplishments that changed the course of history, including:

• Stephen Hawking: The theoretical physicist who, despite being completely paralyzed, earned his Ph.D. and held the Lucasian Professorship of Mathematics at Cambridge University.

• Albert Einstein: Who suffered from learning difficulties in his childhood but later became the author of the “Theory of Relativity” and one of the greatest minds in the history of physics.

• Preethi Srinivasan: Who became paralyzed at the age of eighteen but defied her disability to become the captain of the national cricket team and win a prestigious championship.

  These stories carry a powerful message that “The true disability is the disability of thought, while the disability of the body is merely a challenge in life.”

  The execution of this activity falls within the Center’s commitment to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), by fostering an inclusive and equitable work environment and community that values the potential of all individuals without discrimination.
