The Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches – University of Mosul Continues Its Research Activities.

Within the framework of the University of Mosul’s orientations aimed at strengthening applied scientific research and serving the objectives of sustainable development, the Department of Genetic Resources at the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches has commenced the implementation of a field research activity. This activity included the establishment of field trials for wheat during the current agricultural season, with the aim of supporting agricultural production in dry environments.
This research activity seeks to evaluate the productive performance and yield components of selected wheat genetic lines, as well as to study their adaptability to local environmental conditions, particularly dry and semi-arid environments. The outcomes are expected to contribute to supporting breeding programs and developing high-yielding genetic lines with enhanced tolerance to environmental stresses.
These activities were carried out under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Ma’an Mohammed Saleh, Head of the Department of Genetic Resources, with direct follow-up by Assistant Lecturer Ammar Habib, and with the participation of a distinguished group of the Center’s engineers. This was achieved within an institutional framework that emphasizes research integration and collaborative teamwork in the implementation of scientific programs.
This activity aligns with the Center’s vision to enhance food security and promote sustainable agriculture in dry regions, in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 2, which focuses on ending hunger and achieving food security through the application of scientific research in support of the national agricultural sector. It also supports other Sustainable Development Goals, including Goals 17, 13, 10, 4, and 1.
