University of Mosul’s Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches Transfers “Conservation Agriculture” Technology to Farmers’ Fields in Rabia Sub-district.

In a practical step aimed at applying the latest agricultural technologies on the ground, researchers from the Center for Arid Farming and Conservation Agriculture Researches at the University of Mosul began implementing the Conservation Agriculture (No-Till) system in farmers’ fields in the Rabia sub-district, specifically in the village of Uwaynat.

This field activity, which commenced on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, is carried out in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and is part of the Center’s efforts to transfer knowledge and innovation directly to farmers.

The implementation was supervised by a specialized research team from the Center, led by:Prof. Dr. Salim Hammadi Antar (Head of Agronomy Department) & Dr. Mahmoud Awwad Hussein (Head of the Mechanical Techniques Department) and A select group of the Center’s researchers and engineers.

The field work involved applying the Conservation Agriculture system across different field areas and for several farmers, alongside conducting the Center’s research plan experiments. The results are being compared with the traditional farming methods currently prevalent in the region. Several different varieties and genetic structures of bread wheat were used to scientifically and accurately evaluate their performance with this technique under rainfed conditions.

This scientific and research activity aims to improve the agricultural reality in the Rabia sub-district by introducing modern techniques that align with the requirements for overcoming climate change and water scarcity.

This project falls within the Center’s vision for community service and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) through increased productivity, and SDG 13 (Climate Action) through the adoption of resilient and sustainable agricultural practices.
