Agronomy Department
Objectives pursued by the Agronomy Department:
First: Shifting from conventional agricultural method that relies on multiple tillage to conservation agriculture (Zero tillage), and spreading this environmentally friendly and inexpensive technology to farmers in Nineveh Governorate and throughout Iraq.
Second: Ideal management for agricultural field soils throughout the governorate by conducting surveys of physical and chemical properties of the soil and determining the best ways to exploit it in accordance with principles of soil sustainability.
Third: Effective management of weeds in agricultural fields to stop use of chemical pesticides completely in agricultural fields after stability of conservation agriculture technology in farmers’ fields.
Fourth: Collecting and diagnosing types of plants the Kingdom of Nineveh throughout the province of Nineveh through Flora Nineveh project, which will cover the complete fields agricultural and irrigated people in the governorate as well as the natural pasture area for purpose of issuing the botanical atlas and establishing the Botanical Garden in province of Nineveh.
Fifth: Studies Conducting and researches on benefits achieved and economic, pastoral, medical and industrial uses for wild plants in Nineveh Governorate
Sixth: Modern and sustainable management for agricultural fields after determining characteristics of the soil and climate factors for all agricultural divisions in governorate and then determining the appropriate crops for each environmental area and determining the rate of seeding and agricultural rotations and interventional agriculture for each agricultural division in accordance with its environmental conditions to reach smart management of soil, water and crop.
