The Central Library at the UNESCO Regional Conference in Doha

Following the approach of the University of Mosul, headed by Prof. Dr. Kossay Al-Ahmady, of adopting a policy of opening up to all international institutions and organizations, and at the invitation of the organizers, the Secretary-General participated at the UNISCO Regional Conference entitled (Supporting the Preservation of the Documentary Heritage in the Arab Region) held in cooperation with Qatar National Library in Doha for the period 1-2/12/2019. The Conference aimed to promote cooperation amongst national memory institutions, libraries, archives and conservation experts in the Arab World. It included many speeches, discussions, seminars and meetings attended by senior experts, officials, librarians, conservationists and international organizations to present best processes of conservation and maintenance, and highlighted initiatives and strategies for preserving documentary heritage all over the Arab World and the Middle East. Mr. Sayf Al-Ashqar, the Secretary-General of the University Libraries, made an impressive statement supported by videos and pictures to present in details the situation of the Central Library. A speech was also made by the Director of the UNISCO Regional Office, the Director of the National Library of Qatar and the President of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA). The conference was an opportunity to present the common objectives of the project of partnership between libraries and UNESCO and the future plans to strengthen this partnership including numerous opportunities and initiatives to enhance awareness and capacities.
