Meetings and Initiatives for Joint Cooperation during the UNESCO Conference in Qatar
In line with the vision adopted by Prof. Dr. Kossay Al-Ahmady, President of the University of Mosul, to stress on showing the real situation of the University, reviewing the efforts made by it’s members and opening up to the participations in cooperation programs, Mr. Sayf Al-Ashqar, Secretary-General of the University libraries, during the conference, presented the University President’s gifts to UNESCO and to the National Library of Qatar, including shields of the Central Library. The gifts were valued and considered precious pieces to be kept and displayed to remain an eternal symbol in the memory of the peoples and the world as a witness to the remains of the burned Library. Symbolic gifts were also handed over to the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), as well as to UNISCO’s Memory of the World Program. The conference was attended by experts from several countries: Iraq, Qatar, Morocco, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Sudan, Palestine, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Libya, Mauritania, Algeria, Tunisia, Syria, Iran, Australia, France, the United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Germany, and the United States of America. During the conference discussions, the current local and regional efforts and initiatives to enhance awareness and capacity building have been reviewed. The participating experts and specialists reviewed models of case studies and best practices in the area of exchanging ideas and providing possible solutions to existing challenges. Light has been shed on the initiatives and strategies being applied at the local, regional and international levels to strengthen future joint cooperation channels.
