Consistent with the principles of the University of Mosul regarding raising awareness of historical figures, the President of the University of Mosul Prof. Dr. Kossay Alahmady accompanied by the University’s guests, students and members unveiled the statue of King Ashurbanipal made and donated by the Iraqi artist and sculptor Khaleel Khamees and was erected opposite the Central Library entrance in cooperation with the College of Fine Arts represented by its dean Prof. Dr. Nash’at Mubarak. The Secretary General of the University Libraries, Mr. Sayf Al-Ashqar thanked the Iraqi artist and sculptor Khaleel Khamees and all the University staff who helped to complete this art work. Ashurbanipal was the last great king of the Assyrian Empire, who constructed the Royal Library of Ashurbanipal which is considered the first, greatest and most ancient library in history
