Obtaining Membership of OCLC Organization

In cooperation with UNESCO, the Central Library has become a member of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC) organization, a global non-profit organization that aims to promote cooperation among libraries worldwide and improve access to knowledge and information.
Founded in 1967, OCLC is a nonprofit, membership computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes
of furthering access to the world’s information and reducing library costs.
The Director General of University of Mosul Libraries Mohammed Jasim, with the presence of the Director of UNESCO-funded Project of Restoration of Central Library Mr. Humam Talal, and a number of library staff members, conducted an online meeting with a representative from OCLC. Mechanisms for utilizing the institution’s services were discussed, including importing bibliographic records and linking them to the Central Library’s automated catalog to enhance cataloging efficiency, organize and expand access to information resources.
The Central Library looks forward to employ this membership to provide distinguished services to university library users and contribute to building an integrated knowledge society that supports the progress of education and scientific research at the University of Mosul.
