Under the supervision of the Secretary-General of the University of Mosul Libraries, Mr. Sayf Al-Ashqar, the Continuing Education Division of the Central Library conducted a three-day virtual training course (Machine Translation: Advantages and Disadvantages) from 12 to 14 of October, 2021. The course was presented by Asst. Lect. Zina Tareq and electronically managed by Dr. Ghada Abdulkarim. In the first two days, Asst. Lect. Mafaz Khalil and Mr. Jalal Hikmat delivered the lectures of the training course that began with an introduction to machine translation which was fully defined with a historical overview, in addition to mentioning its function, process, approaches and types, explaining how to include sign language in it, comparing human translation to machine translation, mentioning its advantages and disadvantages, evaluating it and giving examples of human and machine translations from English into Arabic. The course was completed on the third day with an exam for the course attendees who were given participation and examination passing certificates.
