Olivia Cuthbert and Shedding a Light on the Central Library

With the efforts of Prof. Dr. Kossay Al-Ahmady, President of the University of Mosul, to make the attention of the world focus on the University to generate support at all levels, Mr. Sayf Al-Ashqar, Secretary-General of the University Libraries, met with the freelance British journalist Olivia Cuthbert. During the meeting, a dialogue took place between them on the importance of the book in building human culture. The occupation of Mosul and its University by ISIS was also raised to show the destructive effects of that dark period of the occupation and how the University regained its position physically and scientifically after the liberation in a short time that attracted the attention of the world. An integrated picture of the Library’s pivotal role for the City and its University was presented. It was also mentioned that the Library’s reconstruction project was launched despite the great loss suffered by everyone in Mosul due to terrorism. An indication was made about the University President‘s vision on the importance of the international openness and cooperation to promote the roles of the University, Library and society. At the end of the visit, Ms. Olivia expressed her appreciation for the efforts made by the University, the Library and society to bring out the scientific, humanitarian and cultural sides of Mosul.
