About the library

The Central Library of the University of Mosul was established in 1967, which was unique in being a scientific and cultural edifice. Thus the University of Mosul paid special attention to it by providing all the requirements for excellence and success to be one of the largest and greatest universitys’ libraries in Iraq. It was marked by its unique location, as its building was located in the middle of the University of Mosul. The Central Library of the University of Mosul was destroyed and looted ,its building and collections were burned by the terrorist organization ISIS during their occupation of the Mosul city, which led the library losing approximately (one million) sources In addition to completely destroying its building and all its furniture, After the liberation from terrorist gangs, the city of Mosul and its university return to life, so the library had to rise from the rubble. and destruction .The beginning was from its alternative location, as it began receiving books donated by international organizations and civil society organizations, and personal donations from influential figures in the city and the rest of the Iraqi and Arab governorates and universities, in order to open its doors to students and researchers, with the simple capabilities available to the library, and under the auspice and attention of the university presidency Until it was reconstructed by UNDP with the support of international friends and it was opened on 2-19-2022 in its new form, and the library began to receive its users from undergraduate and postgraduate students, researchers and lecturers as the library receives daily no less than (1000) visitors, including researchers, readers and knowledgeable people. The library began to installing the Koha system and transforming the library into an integrated automated system In addition to holding many courses, seminars in-person and electronic workshops, the library continuously receives many scientific, advisory and introductory visits from colleges and schools’ students. As part of the library’s interests is cultural communication with writers and intellectuals locally and internationally by holding cultural seminars, activities and various events. The library also made great efforts , with its administrative and technical staff, to promote and develop the library’s services and introducing everything new to its users.
