User Services Division
An overview of the division:
The Beneficiary’ Services Division is one of the key divisions of the Central Library at the University of Mosul, that represents the basic interface through which enables students, researchers, and faculty members to deal with different information sources. The division is concerned with providing library and information services directly to ensure that the needs of the users are met and to provide an appropriate research environment that supports the educational process and scientific research at the university.
Division’s tasks
The Beneficiary Services Division performs vital tasks, the most prominent of which are:
1.Registering users, managing their subscriptions, and updating their data continuously to ensure possible access to library services.
2.Providing internal and external borrowing services and organizing the process of borrowing and returning resources in line with approved regulations and instructions.
3.Directing users and guiding them on how to use electronic catalogs and modern search systems to access the required sources quickly and accurately.
4.Providing reference and information support to help students and researchers identifying and selecting appropriate scientific sources for their research.
5.Supervising reading rooms and specialized services to ensure a quiet and organized environment that encourages study and research.
6.Conducting periodic assessments of users’ needs and working to develop services in line with their academic requirements.
Technical development and digital services
In line with the digital transformation witnessed by the University of Mosul, the Beneficiary Services Division has kept pace with technical developments in the field of libraries and information through:
- Using the Koha system to manage borrowing ,cataloguing and electronic search operations.
- Providing advanced digital services that enable users to access university theses and opening sources through the library’s electronic portal.
- Participating in uploading university theses and dissertations to the University of Mosul’s digital repository, which contributes to preserving scientific output and making it available to researchers locally and internationally.
- Employing modern technologies in providing services, such as:
o Self- borrowing service that enables the users to borrow and return books directly via electronic terminals without the need for employee intervention.
o Radio wave identification (RFID) technology that facilitates inventory and cataloging operations and speeds up borrowing’s movement , as well as enhancing security and preservation of holdings.
Relationship with other departments
The Beneficiary Services Division works in continuous coordination with other divisions in the library to ensure the integration of work and the quality of services. This relationship includes:
- Cooperating with the Cataloging and Classification Division to ensure accurate organization of sources and ease of retrieval.
- Coordination with the Computer Systems Division to modernize digital systems and developing electronic research tools.
- Communicating with the Administrative Affairs Division regarding human resources and the administrative and technical requirements of the division’s employees.
Quality assurance and performance development
The Beneficiary Services Division is committed to applying quality assurance standards in all its work and services through:
. Measuring the user’s satisfaction and analyzing their feedback to develop services.
. Improving the work’s environment inside library halls to provide comfort and academic support for the users.
. Organizing workshops and training courses to raise employee’s efficiency in dealing with electronic systems and modern technologies.
