Seminar

Regional Studies Center held a seminar titled (the Emirate attitude on the proposed Turkish Peace Water Pipeline Project) by Dr. Rayyan Thanoon Al-Abbasy, in the presence of the Center’s researchers on Wednesday, January 8, 2020.The researcher indicated that his research focused on the project that Turkey suggested to the Gulf countries to supply them with fresh water by taking water from the Seyhan and Ceyhan rivers. The Emirati position towards it was positive and flexible at the beginning in comparison with other Gulf positions, especially that the Emiratis, headed by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, had an initial idea aiming to load the ships designated for oil and returning from Turkey with fresh water, in addition to the UAE’s desire to exchange its natural gas for Turkish water. However, this project was eventually rejected and its pipes became just a dream project.
