The Department of Economic and Social Studies at Regional Studies Center – University of Mosul has organized a significant online lecture by the head of the department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nawfal Qasim Ali Al-Shahwan, entitled (Iraq’s Economy under Coronavirus: Treatments and Proposals) On April 9, 2020, in the presence of the Center’s director, many academics and other academics from outside the Center. The lecture managed a precise description of the Iraqi economy in the prevailing conditions with the spread of the Coronavirus epidemic in Iraq and its outbreak in the world. Moreover, the global economic repercussions that resulted in the fall of oil prices and global exchanges, which negatively affected the Rentier States that depend on oil as the main resource for their economy, including Iraq.
Dr. Nawfal put forward many recommendations with the public debt proposal in an elaborated detail that corresponds to the trends of the population in Iraq and takes into account the Islamic sharia law, which he proposes to the Parliamentary Finance Committee as immediate solutions, in addition to several other suggestions and recommendations set by some economic experts instead of reducing the salaries of the special grades within explicit goals and programs to overcome the crisis.
