Regional Studies Center Holds a Symposium on the UN

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Qusay Kamal Al-Din Al-Ahmadi, the President of the University of Mosul, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Muneer Salem Taha, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, in the presence of Dr. Zohra Tabouri – the United Nations Mission in Nineveh, and through coordination with the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations at Mosul University; the Department of Public Policies at Regional Studies Center has organized the international scientific electronic symposium titled (The United Nations in facing contemporary regional and international challenges), on Saturday, October 24, 2020, which comes simultaneously with the 75th anniversary of the United Nations Organization founding.The symposium intended to state the organization’s role in all fields of work, the regional and international crises it has faced, the solutions it has provided to maintain international peace and security, its role in achieving international cooperation among member states, protecting rights and freedoms, promoting human rights concepts, and other issues of primary concern.The symposium began with a speech by Prof. Dr. Muneer Salem Taha, Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, followed by a speech by Assist. Prof. Dr. Luqman Omar Al-Nuaimi, Director of the Center, and a speech by the UNAMI’s Head of Office & Security Coordinator in Iraq, Zohra Tabouri.The symposium consisted of two sessions, the first one was chaired by Dr. Tariq Mohammad Al-Qassar, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Mosul, which included four research papers, while the second session was chaired by Dr. Ziyad Abdul-Wahab Al-Nuaimi, Head of the Center’s Public Policies Department which included four research papers as well. In conclusion, the symposium came out with several important recommendations.
