Regional Studies Center Holds a Seminar on NATO’s Expansion in Eastern Europe

Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held a seminar for the research entitled “NATO’s Expansion in Eastern Europe…Security Implications and Stability”, presented by “Assist. Prof. Walid Mahmood Ahmad Al-Najjo” on February 11, 2024.

The seminar aimed to present the effects resulting from attempts of Western-Atlantic geographical incursion, seeking to expand Atlantic-Western influence in the eastern parts of Europe, limit Russian influence to the greatest possible extent, and then impose an external cordon on Russia’s Western borders in the post-Cold War phase, in light of Russian expectations that the West would leave such a sort of thought and performance.

The researcher stated that the research sought to present and analyze the state of the political-geographical scene of the region in question on the eve of the end of the Cold War and the years that followed through the following axes: First: Global power relations; Second: Russia and Western neglect; Third: NATO’s expansion and the war in the Balkans; Fourth: Russia’s changing expectations; Fifth: Frustrated Russia and Western unilateralism.
