Regional Studies Center‎ Holds a Seminar on the Russian Role in the Syrian Crisis

Regional Studies Center‎ ‎held a seminar for the research entitled “The Russian Role in the Syrian Crisis… Objectives and Motives,” presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Batoul Halayil Al-Moussawi on March 31, 2024.

The seminar aimed to investigate the goals and motives of the Russian role in the Syrian crisis and identify it with geostrategic, historical, economic, security, and military factors.

The seminar included a study of three sections. The first section focused on the historical roots of Syrian-Russian relations. The second section focused on the motives for the Russian position on the Syrian crisis, and the third section targeted the Russian vision for resolving the Syrian crisis. ‏

The researcher stated that the research concluded that the Russians view the Syrian crisis as an issue of international and regional conflict, requiring a strong Russian presence to be able to fill the void in this country, given its important geopolitical position. For Russia in the region, and not to leave it to fighting and weakening the forces, especially in light of their good knowledge of the unwillingness and readiness of the US for direct military intervention in the affairs of Syria, and that the entire crisis falls within the framework of NATO’s expansion towards the east and the United States’ attempt to encircle Russia and prevent it from penetrating and expanding again in the region and enhance its role globally.
