Regional Studies Center

Regional Studies Center at the University of Mosul held a seminar on the research entitled “The Imperial State and the National Nation” presented by Assist. Prof. Dr. Waleed Mahmoud Ahmad on 30 June 2024.
The seminar aimed to find out how political entities were historically formed in their imperial form and then when they underwent ideological and social changes that crystallized with them in naming and composition.
The seminar consisted of two main themes: The first addressed Imperial Nations – National Nations, while the second tackled the power of ethnic nationalisms within imperial societal policies, with two case studies: the United States and the Soviet Union.
